So while I did quite a bit of shooting over the summer, my efforts were more concentrated on lifestyle shots instead of artistic lighting. I think a wrench was tossed into my plans. I think the reason why was that I had a part time job cutting into my planning stages and I would end up "settling" just to stay in form. With the winter rapidly approaching, I plan on shooting in the studio more. That should give me the boost I need to really start experimenting with light and concepts. Until then, I am going to take advantage of the warm weather while it lasts. =)
The photo above is a shot of the beautiful Khayla Jones, a local Sacramento model. I captured this image using a brand new Nikon D700 with a 16-35mm f/4 pro lens. It's not the ideal lens for portraits, but there is very little "obvious" distortion on this wide zoom; it's a great lens. She was lit with an AlienBee 800 strobe with a 47" Octobox attached. Hope everyone had a great summer! Sacramento Photographer |

I am now well over my 365 Project hangover. The 365 Project is shooting a photograph a day for a full year, for those of you unaware. I am now back to working with models regularly, and I feel I have elevated my game a little bit. I really hope I have because I am trying. I really am trying. lol! Make sure to hit up my Think Tunk Fans Page to see some of the latest stuff I continue to produce.
On the subject of hangovers... You'll all be happy to know that I can provide you with these on a regular basis. I was recently hired by the good folks at Crestview Lanes to tend bar on call. I should be getting my own shift soon, but at least I am able to earn a little supplemental income to help out with my photography business. The nice thing about working at the alley is that I will be close to bowling; it's something I like to do. So if you frequent Crestview Lanes, or even bowl league there, there is a good chance you may find me behind the bar some evening. Come on in and belly-up to the bar, say hi, and tip well. ;) Some recent updates to my Sacramento Photography Examiner column: Back to school with Northern California fashion photographer, Olga Lavrukhina Help! I've never photographed a wedding before! Getting intimate with Sacramento photographer Tammy Nguyen
Until next time! Cheers! |

I've been getting harassed by many of my photography peers, and even my mother, wondering why I haven't been producing as many photographs as I normally do lately. I really think it is the hangover from doing a 365 photo project (photo a day for a whole year) that I recently wrapped up. After touching my camera every day for a full year, it's been kind of nice being able to walk by my camera bag without the need to open it at least once during the day. While the break in action has been nice, I have a bunch of cool ideas that I really want to get working on, and this summer I will probably be pretty busy executing those ideas. So keep an eye out for fresh photos soon at my Sacramento Photography site, ThinkTunk.com. I'm currently working on yet another website that will showcase my photography. It is an effort I am putting together utilizing the SmugMug environment. SmugMug is a CMS (Content Management System) for photographers looking to put together a website quick and easy without the need to have any web-technical experience. I'm not going to drop the domain name, where the site is set up, just yet. I still have a few things to clean up before I start broadcasting it's whereabouts. This site is going to be for business purposes primarily. It's a got a great cart system that integrates nicely with a couple of the industry's best photo labs online. Once completed, ThinkTunk.com will become more of an artist profile and portfolio style site. Which is what it was intended to be in the first place. Right now it is a mish-mash of all kinds of services I offer. I will keep you posted as these projects proceed. My Examiner column is taking off. I have done some pretty cool interviews with some of Northern California's finest talent in the photography industry, as well as some general topic stuff that has been getting a little bit of attention. Below is a few links to some of the recent interviews, and other topics, I have written: Flashlights, Monkeys and more with Sacramento Photographer Tim Engle Sacramento Model and Designer, Naomi May talks Fashion her way Popular Photography Workshop returns to Napa Area Stay tuned for more to come. |

Well after a long week of crappy weather, tomorrow I am planning to head up to Grass Valley for a little road trip with my folks. They have been wanting to get out of the house for the past few weeks, and this week the weather has finally started to look more Spring-ish than recent weeks. So the camera is going to get some much needed use as I plan on capturing anything that I find to be interesting. It has been sitting in it's bag for weeks without any attention from me; it has to be lonely. The bad weather has enabled me to do a lot of writing lately, and I am trying to get as much practice as possible. I am trying to improve. I would eventually like to try putting some kind of publication together based around photography. For that to happen, I need for my speed and creative flow to improve. While writing a publication about photography gives me a good excuse to use a lot of pictures to tell the story (HA!), I still want to be able to describe any needful details about the images I publish in a quirky and entertaining way. I love to write, but the process is a lot slower for me compared to some people I know who can just set their fingers on autopilot for five minutes and have a 1000 word piece done that requires very little editing. I try to write the way I converse with someone, but I often spew out a bunch of crap before I think about what I am saying. Therefore I need to edit a lot as I go. If I specialized in writing in rants, I would be just as fast as any clown out there who actually knows what the hell they are doing. So while I keep things short here, I will try to link you to stuff I have been working on that is a little more informative. Here's a recent article I posted about Photographer's Block Here's a blog entry from one of my other blogs about Green Screen Photography Here's an update about writing as a Photography Examiner Saturday, I am shooting (photographing of course) two beautiful Asian models. I have worked with both of them before, so I am very excited. Below is a couple of links to their galleries on ThinkTunk.com. I'll be posting details from that shoot after it happens of course, so until then... Have a most excellent weekend!

I know it may seem like I have abandoned this site, and I pretty much have since last summer (2009), but I have not stopped with my writing and photography. I have merely channeled those efforts toward different websites. While I would like to say that I am going to try and keep this site updated from now on, I'm not going to promise anything but I'll try. However, the least I can do is send you to some blogs and a column that is updated much more frequently. Below are a couple of websites that I keep updated a little more frequently: Sacramento Photography Examiner Sacramento Photography Blog Sacramento Photographer Blog Those three sites are updated more often. Thanks for stopping by to see what I am up to. |
